Samsung, KB Kookmin Card launch IoT credit card

Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Thursday it launched an Internet of Things (IoT) credit card in collaboration with KB Kookmin Card.

The card uses bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology and is based on the SmartThings Find service.

SmartThings Find allows users to locate various Samsung Electronics devices, including Galaxy smartphones, tablets, wearables, and tags.

The new Samsung IoT credit card integrates SmartThings Find, enabling users to locate their credit card domestically and internationally if they lose their wallet or forget where they placed the card.

It can track the last location where the Galaxy smartphone was connected via BLE and show location records for the past seven days.

The IoT credit card can help users find their smartphones.

By setting the Find and Notify function in the SmartThings Find service, users can press the button on the bottom of the IoT credit card to make their smartphone ring.

If the IoT credit card moves out of range from the connected Galaxy smartphone, users will receive an app push notification and can use Bixby voice commands to check the card's location.

The IoT credit card can be charged using a smartphone wireless charger, and a full charge lasts approximately 30 days.

The IoT credit card, launched for the first time in South Korea by Samsung Electronics and KB Kookmin Card, is branded as the KB Kookmin SkyPass IoT Titanium Card under American Express and is limited to the first 1,000 applicants.

Applications for the card are available from Thursday on the KB Kookmin Card website and KB Pay app.

In September last year, Samsung Electronics, KB Kookmin Card, and American Express signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the IoT card.
