Genesis BBQ Group, the operator of a popular South Korean fried chicken brand, said on Monday that it signed a master franchise agreement with PT Jakarta Heritage Rasa Harum, an affiliate of the Indonesian food company Gunung Sewu Group to enter the Indonesian market.
Indonesia, with a population of about 270 million, is the fourth most populous country in the world.
With a large domestic market and an average age of 27.9 years, BBQ explained that there is significant growth potential in the dining-out industry.
BBQ plans to expand its franchise business by collaborating with local partners with strong infrastructure and excellent food business capabilities.
Starting with the capital and largest city, Jakarta, the company plans to open locations in other major cities such as Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Bali.
BBQ operates stores in 57 countries, including the US, Canada, Panama, Costa Rica, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Fiji.
The company has expanded its reach to Latin America and Southeast Asia.
