Samsung Group affiliates’ CEOs are working to bring the World Expo 2030 to Busan in South Korea using their overseas networks.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Samsung Group’s electronic components maker, said on Wednesday its chief executive Chang Duck-hyun met with the Philippines' Secretary of Trade and Industry Alfredo Pascual on Aug. 15.
During their meeting, Chang appealed for the Philippines’ support to attract the expo in Busan, as well as discussed innovative technologies and activities in the neighboring country, the company said.
The CEO went to the Philippines to visit the company’s affiliate there. Chang strengthened the partnership with the Filipino government by discussing the expansion of their current partnerships, such as collaborations with local firms and academia.
The Samsung Group is lobbying hard for the World Expo 2030 to be held in the southern port city of Korea. In July, Samsung Electronics Co. CEO Han Hong-hee met Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, asking for the same support.
Busan in Korea, Rome in Italy and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia are bidding to hold the world’s exhibition event. The host country will be elected by Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member states in late 2023.
