LG Electronics Inc. plans to release the world’s first roll-up TV later this month as the South Korean consumer electronics giant aims to enhance its presence in the high-end TV market.
The company uploaded a teaser video on YouTube on Oct. 11 announcing the imminent launch of the state-of-the-art TV, the LG Signature OLED R.
LG Electronics to release the world’s first automatic roll-up TV in late October LG recently opened a website dedicated to promoting the latest TV model, and started receiving preorders for the product. Following a launch event for invited guests at the Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul Oct. 14-19, the company plans to sell the TV to consumers later this month.
The Signature OLED R will likely sell at over 100 million won ($85,400) a unit, about twice the price of an 88-inch 8K OLED TV that is currently among LG’s most expensive.
The rollout TV was first unveiled at US electronics expo CES 2019 as a finished product. When users turn the TV on, its 65-inch screen automatically rolls up from the TV’s main box and when it is turned off, the screen is rolled back into the main body.
A company official said given the high price tag, the roll-up TV will initially be popular among high-end consumers in the luxury product market.
