The mutual aid association appointed Huh as the new CIO in the board representatives' meeting on Thursday. POBA shortlisted the CIO candidates last December, including Kim Bae-sik, a former alternative investment head of Samsung Life Insurance Co., as well as the head of a Korean asset management firm.
Born in 1963, Huh studied business administration at Seoul National University. He started his financial career at now-defunct Tongyang Securities Inc. in 1989, which Yuanta Securities Korea acquired in 2014. He also served as head of securities investment in Samsung Life Insurance and equity investment head at Prudential Asset Management, which was merged into Hanwha Asset Management in 2010.
Huh served as co-head of Seoul-based Tempis Investment Advisory in 2011 and was the head of investment at DB Insurance from 2013 to 2020.
POBA's former CIO Jang Dong-hun's term ended in January. Jang succeeded to a second term in January 2019, with 90% support from POBA’s board of representatives.
