South Korea's KT Corp. said on Monday that it will expand its Artificial Intelligence Internet of Things (AIoT) video surveillance business to electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, in collaboration with the Korea Automobile Environmental Association and other partners.
By utilizing KT's on-device AIoT, data collected in real time by the device is processed by AI, and only the results are sent to the server, which enhances installation convenience and reduces costs.
The on-device AIoT video surveillance solution, installed above charging stations, detects abnormalities such as smoke around charging vehicles and promptly alerts managers from the early stages of any irregularities.
Notable signs of concern include a rapid temperature increase at the charger connector or vehicle connection terminal detected via infrared or thermal imaging cameras, and anomalies in V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) communication.
In addition to sending alarms to managers, the system also transmits short video clips of the situation to the manager's web interface and application.
The service will eventually be expanded to automatically notify fire departments of any irregularities or to remotely cut off the power supply through a control platform linked to the EV charger.
