SK Signet builds system to enhance EV charger cybersecurity

SK Signet Inc., South Korea's electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it has established an enhanced cybersecurity system for EV chargers with Fescaro, which specializes in automotive software (SW) and security systems.

The two companies have conducted a review of the cybersecurity status of EV chargers, performing threat analysis and evaluations to develop countermeasures based on the threats' priority.

They have developed a mid- and long-term security roadmap to flexibly respond to cyber threats.

Given that EV chargers communicate with vehicles and manage various SW, including payment systems and membership services, the proliferation of EVs has underscored the increasing importance of cybersecurity for these chargers.

Fescaro provides optimized automotive cybersecurity solutions that comply with international laws and standards.

SK Signet has highlighted that Fescaro's solutions are the first in South Korea to receive the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the US.

To enhance customer convenience and security, SK Signet is also developing a Charger Integrated Support System (CISS).

This system will feature real-time monitoring and control of chargers, as well as the remote execution of over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
