South Korea's Cuckoo Electronics Co. announced on Friday that its duty-free sales in July increased by 592.6% compared to the same period last year, as the number of foreign tourists has increased following the transition to post-COVID-19.
With the recent full approval of group tourism to South Korea by the Chinese government, Cuckoo Electronics plans to strengthen its duty-free market and increase sales.
Initially, the company will expand its presence at Lotte Department Store's main branch, which is frequented by Chinese tourists, by adding signage in Chinese and providing various services and benefits.
In addition, the company will launch duty-free exclusive models, focusing on products like the IH Pressure Rice Cooker equipped with Chinese voice recognition capabilities. Premium products like the Twin Pressure Master Chef, which are popular among Chinese tourists, will contribute to expanding the product lineup.
Cuckoo Electronics is also planning to expand its presence in duty-free stores to increase interactions with foreign tourists. Out of the 12 duty-free stores currently present, Lotte Duty-Free Busan and Shinsegae Incheon Airport T2 stores will officially convert into official sellers of Cuckoo products next month and further expansion is planned until 2024.
