KT&G, South Korea's dominant tobacco company, announced on Monday that along with South Korea's non-profit organization Sharing Culture & Arts it has built an elementary school in Nonkeo village, Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, and held a dedication ceremony for the school on Dec. 1.
The completion ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-hak, vice president of KT&G's Sustainable Management Division, Yoo Hyun-sook, chairman of the Sharing Culture and Arts Association, Lao government officials, and residents of Nonkeo.
In order to provide support for educational infrastructure in Laos, KT&G has been pushing for the construction of an elementary school since November last year and completed the project about a year from the start of construction.
The school building houses six classrooms, a multipurpose room, a teacher's room, and a soccer field outdoors.
The cost for the construction was financed through the "SangSang Fund," which was raised through voluntary donations from KT&G executives and employees.
