South Korea’s Government Employees Pension Service (GEPS) has named a former senior investment manager of the National Pension Service (NPS), who had led the pension fund’s New York office, as the new head of its global investment division.
Young-soo Oh was hired for the position through a public competition late last month, according to the industry sources on March 3.
Oh led the formation of the New York office of the NPS in 2011 and headed it in the first years. Since joining the world’s third-largest pension fund in 2003, she also managed domestic and global stock portfolios.
Prior to the NPS, she had worked for the former Korea Exchange Bank’s international investment division and the accounting firm Samjong KPMG LLC. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s business administration department.
At the GEPS, she will take full charge of global investments, including setting up management plans for overseas bond and stock portfolios, selecting outside managers for overseas bonds and stocks, and finding new investment targets.
The pension fund had 7.3 trillion won ($6.3 billion) of assets under management at end-2016.
