South Korea's SK Telecom Co. said on Monday that it partnered with Samsung Electronics Co. to apply artificial intelligence (AI)-based quality optimization technology for fifth-generation (5G) mobile base stations, known as AI-radio access network (AI-RAN) Parameter Recommender, to its commercial network.

The two companies have used AI and deep learning to continually enhance mobile network operations by analyzing past performance data.

They recently developed technology that automatically recommends optimal parameters tailored to each base station’s environment.

Due to terrain and surrounding infrastructure, the base stations are subject to varying radio, which can impact service quality even when using standardized equipment.

Samsung Electronics Network Parameter Optimization AI Model streamlines resources for optimizing radio network performance and helps manage extensive mobile networks in clusters, keeping them in optimal condition.

SK Telecom said its AI technology improves the radio network by automatically adjusting the power output of base station signals when signal strength is low or data transmission errors occur due to interference.
