Hyundai Motor sells over 1,000 Elec City FCEV

Hyundai Motor Co. said on Sunday it has sold more than 1,000 units of its hydrogen fuel cell bus Elec City Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) with cumulative sales reaching 1,032 units as of last month.

The Elec City FCEV, introduced in 2019, was the world’s first urban hydrogen electric bus.

The vehicle has a 180kW fuel cell system, an 875-liter hydrogen tank, and a 78.4kWh high-capacity battery, making it well-suited for long-distance routes and high-traffic areas with higher energy consumption.

Hyundai Motor said the bus can travel up to 550 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to its advanced fuel cell system and large hydrogen tank.

The automaker highlighted the environmental benefits of hydrogen buses, noting that operating a single bus for a year can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 72 tons, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 2,700 pine trees.

Hyundai Motor launched a high-speed version, the Universe FCEV last year, further expanding its hydrogen-powered fleet.

Earlier this year, Hyundai Motor signed an agreement with KD Transport Group, the domestic's largest land transport firm to transition 1,000 buses in the Seoul metropolitan area to hydrogen-powered models by 2027.
