Samsung boosts renewable energy in Vietnam facilities

Samsung Electronics Co. said on Wednesday its Vietnam facilities will ramp up eco-friendly operations by directly purchasing renewable energy under Vietnam's new DPPA system.

The Vietnamese government on Wednesday issued a decree allowing companies to directly purchase renewable energy from private power producers through the direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) system.

The DPPA system permits companies to enter into contracts for a certain amount of renewable energy directly with private power producers, the state-operated Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

With the implementation of the DPPA, Samsung Electronics' Vietnam facilities can now purchase renewable energy from private power producers, strengthening the institutional foundation for securing renewable energy.

Samsung Electronics has been working with various stakeholders, including the Vietnamese government and civil society organizations, to introduce the DPPA to realize eco-friendly operations.
