Korea Western Power Co. (KOWEPO) announced on Friday that it has signed a United Arab Emirates (UAE) Khazna 1.5 GW Solar Project Bid Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with EDF Renewables (EDF-R), the renewable energy subsidiary of Électricité de France SA (EDF).
The Khazna 1.5 GW solar project bid, following the Ajban 1.5 GW solar project awarded to KOWEPO, is a large-scale solar project initiated by the Abu Dhabi government in the UAE. It will be completed in the Al-Khazna area by 2027 and operated for 30 years.
KOWEPO and EDF-R have been building trust in the Middle East market by securing solar projects consecutively since last year.
Notable projects include the Manah 500 MW solar project in Oman and the Ajban 1.5 GW solar project in the UAE.
The company plans to leverage its trust and technological capabilities to handle financing, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) negotiations, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) of power plants.
It's also expected to contribute to import substitution by supplying major equipment to domestic companies.
