Samsung develops health software development kit

Samsung Electronics Co. on Thursday introduced the Samsung Health Software Development Kit (SDK) Suite, aimed at helping developers and researchers create healthcare solutions using health metrics gathered from Galaxy devices.

The new SDK Suite includes a Sensor SDK, Data SDK, Accessory SDK, and Research Stack, forming a comprehensive package to support the development of innovative health services on the Samsung Health platform.

The Sensor SDK leverages the BioActive sensor algorithm from the Galaxy Watch, which monitors health indicators such as heart rate, skin temperature, electrocardiograms (ECG), and body composition.

The updated Sensor SDK adds data from infrared and red LED sensors, which measure blood oxygen saturation, enabling the development of services such as sleep improvement solutions.

Samsung’s partner Partron Co. used the Sensor SDK to develop a body temperature measurement app for the Galaxy Watch, which recently received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Samsung said.

Next month, Samsung will launch the Data SDK, allowing developers to use health data collected from Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Ring, and smartphones. Metrics include sleep, exercise, blood pressure, diet, and blood glucose levels.

The updated Research Stack 2.0, which integrates with the Sensor SDK and Data SDK, will expand the range of data available for developers and researchers, Samsung said.
