South Korea's SK Chemicals Co. and South Korean traditional rice-based wine brewery Kooksoondang Co. signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday to develop traditional liquor containers using circular recycled polyethylene terephthalate (CR-PET) for the first time in the industry.
Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to develop and push toward the commercialization of traditional liquor packaging using circular recycled materials.
This initiative marks the first time a traditional liquor container is being developed with materials based on chemical recycling technology.
To achieve this, SK Chemicals will supply the SKYPET CR material needed for the production of these containers and provide various technical support based on their expertise in polyester materials.
Kooksoondang plans to use this material to develop and apply optimized recycled packaging for traditional liquor containers.
The two companies aim to extend their efforts beyond simply developing containers with recycled packaging.
