HD Hyundai OCI, the petrochemical affiliate of HD Hyundai Oilbank, said on Tuesday it started to supply Hankook Tire & Technology with recycled carbon black made from waste tires.
HD Hyundai Oilbank produced slurry oil using raw materials derived from the pyrolysis of waste tires, and HD Hyundai OCI used this oil to create recycled carbon black.
Carbon black is a key material in tire production, mainly used as a reinforcing and coloring agent to enhance rubber elasticity.
HD Hyundai OCI plans to enter the waste tire recycling market starting with this achievement.
The company’s recycled carbon black obtained the ISCC PLUS certification for eco-friendliness in April.
This certification involves rigorous assessment from raw materials to processing and final products.
"With demand for sustainable tires expected to grow, especially in Europe, we will proactively respond to market growth and expand our supply," an HD Hyundai OCI source said.
