Solus Advanced Materials, a South Korean copper foil supplier, said on Tuesday it started mass production at its second plant in Hungary, Europe’s only production site for copper foil used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
The annual production capacity of the second Hungary plant is 23,000 tons. This brings Solus Advanced Materials' total production capacity in Europe to 38,000 tons, combining the 15,000-ton capacity of its first plant.
Solus Advanced Materials also plans to establish a third plant to meet the increasing demand for EV batteries in the future. With Hungary’s first through third plants combined, it aims to achieve a total production capacity of 100,000 tons.
The company is accelerating its establishment of a production base in North America. Its first copper foil plant in Canada is expected to begin mass production in 2026 with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons and aims to reach a long-term production capacity of 63,000 tons.
