South Korea's Aekyung Chemical Co. announced on Wednesday that it developed a high-performance hard carbon material that functions as the main anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIB).
The newly developed hard carbon matches global standards with a discharge capacity and efficiency of 300 mAh/g and over 90%, respectively.
The company has also produced these products in its mass production facilities, preparing for large-scale manufacturing.
SIB is attracting significant interest as a future alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
Their advantages lie in superior cost-effectiveness and environmentally friendly characteristics.
Since 2012, Aekyung Chemical has been the first in South Korea to develop and mass-produce hard carbon anode materials for secondary batteries.
