South Korean rechargeable battery maker SK On Co. signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siemens Digital Industries Software (Siemens DISW) to establish a digital twin for battery cell manufacturing on April 12, according to the company on Sunday.
Siemens DISW's expertise, SK On can monitor and optimize its manufacturing processes in a virtual environment.
This will enable the company to minimize downtime from equipment failures or maintenance, reducing costs.
SK On plans to initially implement the digital twin technology at its Seosan plant in South Chungcheong Province, the smart factory concept to its global production facilities in the future.
