Hyundai Motor Co.'s premium brand Genesis said on Sunday that its sport utility vehicle (SUV) GV70 and the Electrified GV70 got the highest rating of "Top Safety Pick Plus" (TSP+) in crash tests conducted by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

According to Hyundai Motor Group, in this year's IIHS evaluations, Genesis had seven models (G80, the Electrified G80, G90, GV60, GV70, and the Electrified GV70) that received TSP+ rating.

IIHS is a non-profit organization founded in 1959 that comprehensively evaluates the crash safety performance and crash prevention performance of vehicles released in the US market each year.

IIHS awards the TSP+ rating to vehicles with the highest level of safety and the TSP rating to those with a good level of safety. Hyundai Motor Group explained that it became more difficult to achieve excellent ratings this year due to stricter criteria for rear passenger protection and pedestrian collision prevention systems compared to previous years.

Vehicles must achieve an "acceptable" rating or higher in this category to receive the TSP+ designation.

To earn the TSP+ rating, vehicles have to earn the highest "good" rating in three crash safety categories: front small overlap, frontal crash, and side impact.
