South Korea’s power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. announced on Monday that it signed a contract with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) for the production and post-processing of turbine vanes and blades.
These are core high-temperature components for the aviation gas turbines that ADD is developing. The components are slated for delivery by 2027.
This contract is an extension of an earlier agreement that Doosan Enervility signed with ADD in June, which focused on the layout design and component analysis of aircraft turbofan engines.
Doosan Energy has successfully developed the world's fifth gas turbine for power generation.
While both aerospace and power generation gas turbines operate on similar principles and structures, aerospace turbines are designed for high output, lightweight construction, and operational flexibility.
In contrast, power generation turbines prioritize high efficiency, high output, and stability.
"The signing of this contract is significant because it shows that Doosan Enervility has expanded its business into the aircraft engine sector, building on our technology and expertise in power generation gas turbines developed in collaboration with domestic academia and research institutes," said Park Hong-Wook, head of the Power Service Business Group at Doosan Enerbility.
"We will leverage our accumulated technology and systems to focus on the development of aircraft gas turbines as well."
