Samsung mobile chief to talk with Qualcomm on Galaxy S25 chips

TM Roh, president and head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division, plans to meet Qualcomm President and Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon and other executives of the global mobile chip leader at Snapdragon Summit next week in Hawaii, industry sources in Seoul said on Thursday.
Qualcomm will unveil its next-generation mobile AP Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 produced via a 3-nanometer process of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), which will be mounted on all Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphones, at the event on Oct. 21-23 in Maui.
Roh is likely to negotiate with Qualcomm’s top executives over the supply of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as the decision was predicted to significantly increase the AP’s prices, according to industry sources in Seoul.
XR COOPERATION
The head of Samsung’s mobile business also plans to discuss extended reality (XR) devices, which Samsung is developing with Qualcomm and Google, in the meeting, those sources said.
“We aim to establish an XR ecosystem ahead of launching XR devices,” Roh said in July.
He is set to visit major US cities such as Dallas, Texas, before heading to Hawaii to check sales of the Galaxy series in North America.
Samsung plans to increase its share in the premium smartphone sector there by enhancing artificial intelligence functions in competition against the region’s dominant player Apple Inc. with a 52% share in the US market.
