HD Hyundai Electric Co., an energy solution provider under South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai, said on Sunday it completed a 12,690-square-meter storage facility for power transformers at its production plant in Alabama, the US.

The facility can hold up to 60 finished transformers.

“By transferring the completed transformers directly to the storage facility, production efficiency has increased, and the need for transport to external storage has been eliminated, resulting in cost savings,” the company said.

HD Hyundai Electric is also expanding its domestic transformer operations.

It plans to finish upgrading its Ulsan transformer plant in South Korea this month and to complete a new transformer core factory in the same complex by October.

The company expects the combined projects to generate an additional 220 billion won ($159 million) in annual revenue.
