South Korea’s homegrown web browser Whale, developed by Naver Corp., will be installed in Renault Korea cars.

Naver Cloud announced on Friday that it developed a car-optimized browser and installed it in the Renault Korea SUV Grand Koleos.

This installation is part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in February with Renault Korea Motors and DRIMAES for building a car web platform.

The newly revealed Renault Korea Grand Koleos at the 2024 Busan International Motor Show allows users to access various web-based services such as online videos, music streaming, and social media through the Whale car browser.

The Whale car browser is optimized for the automotive environment to ensure a seamless connection between the car's hardware system and web services. It implements a user interface (UI) that removes browser tab functions so users can easily experience web services in the car.

Naver Cloud explained that the Whale car browser is highly compatible, providing users with various infotainment services in a consistent environment without restrictions from car hardware or operating systems (OS).

Unlike infotainment systems not based on the web, which require separate app development and updates for each OS, the Whale Car browser can develop and load apps according to web standards.

Naver Cloud and Renault Korea plan to continue their collaboration to provide users with an even broader range of services.
