South Korean food giant CJ CheilJedang Corp. has engaged in an upcycling business by utilizing wheat bran, previously discarded as a milling byproduct, as an ingredient for bread.

CJ CheilJedang announced on Wednesday that it's expanding synergies by investing in a food startup Re:Harvest.

According to CJ CheilJedang, Re:Harvest has provided its alternative flour Re:nergy wheat bran flour for sliced bread of Tous Les Jours, the bakery chain of CJ Foodville since February.

CJ CheilJedang explained that these products are lower in calories and richer in nutrients such as dietary fiber, protein, and potassium.
