South Korea's LG Uplus Corp. announced on Thursday a business agreement with the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) to develop a university metaverse platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

This partnership will merge GIST's advanced AI capabilities with LG Uplus's cutting-edge metaverse technology.

The collaboration aims to create a more efficient and immersive virtual campus experience, particularly beneficial for students accustomed to remote learning environments.

They initially will focus on integrating AI technology into LG Uplus's university-specific metaverse platform, Uverse.

Key areas of collaboration include implementing and operating an AI-driven metaverse campus, enhancing and activating its functionalities, and developing a real-time online lecture platform.

LG Uplus plans to establish an AI metaverse campus at GIST in this year and further enhance its services.

To improve learning efficiency in the metaverse, they will actively utilize GIST's AI solutions, such as real-time translation and interpretation for classes, which will enhance the learning experience for international students.
