Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. (Hyundai E&C) announced on Monday that it was selected as the preferred bidder for a private investment project of a metropolitan integrated biogas facility in Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.

This is a project to rebuild the Gumi sewage treatment plant in Chilgokgun, North Gyeongsang Province, to treat food waste, sewage residue, and manure.

Biogas will be produced from 475 tonnes of organic waste per day generated by Gumi City and Chilgok County and supplied as city gas to the neighboring areas.

The expected annual output is 5.5 million N㎥ per year. The city gas will be used to supply about 9,000 households.

The old facilities will be integrated and undergrounded to solve odor problems and improve operational efficiency.

The total project cost is 176.7 billion won ($132 million), and the construction period is 48 months from the groundbreaking date.

It will be operated for 20 years after completion.
