EVSIS, Lotte Data Communication Co. 's electric vehicle (EV) charging subsidiary, announced on Thursday that it held the completion ceremony for its new smart factory in Cheongju the previous day.

The new Cheongju facility, with a 20-billion-won ($15-million) investment, is a five-story building with a total floor area of 16,529 square meters.

With the completion of the new factory, production capacity has more than doubled, allowing for the annual production of around 20,000 EV chargers.

The Cheongju plant has improved productivity per worker by implementing automation systems such as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and inline conveyor belts for transporting heavy materials.

The company emphasized that this automation will lead to shortened delivery times and improved product quality for its customers.

EVSIS has already built and operated over 4,000 chargers until last year, and it plans to expand its output to 7,500 units by the end of this year.

As EVSIS expands its charger supply in the North American and Southeast Asian markets, the company also has plans to enter the Japanese market.

In response to future large-scale mobility solutions like electric ships, EVSIS has initiated the development of next-generation megawatt-class chargers.
