South Korea's artificial intelligence (AI) startup Upstage announced on Thursday that it will co-develop and commercialize On-device AI Office with office software specialist Polaris Office, which runs generative AI (GenAI) directly on the product itself.
On-device AI installs a lightweight large language model (LLM) directly on personal devices such as smartphones and computers, allowing the use of GenAI without an Internet connection.
It has recently emerged as a new paradigm. On-device AI can operate in closed networks like those in government agencies and the financial services industry, ensuring high security by preventing sensitive information breaches offline.
Upstage incorporates its pre-trained LLM Solar into the global document software Polaris Office.
According to the company, this enables document work utilizing various features of Solar, such as real-time document translation, information summarization, and high-quality text generation.
On-device AI Office with Solar is scheduled to be released, starting with the Apple Mac operating system version, and inquiries and pre-orders will be accepted from Mar. 1.
