South Korea’s Shinsegae I&C Inc. announced on Monday that its electric vehicle (EV) charging service Spharos EV will introduce a total of 900 EV charging stations at Starfield and Emart locations.

Spharos EV will open 409 charging stations at four Starfield locations and three Starfield City locations.

Starting on Thursday, the expansion will continue sequentially to Starfield City Myeongji, Wirye, and Bucheon until next month beginning with Starfield Hanam, Goyang, Anseong, and Suwon.

Spharos EV charging stations will also be expanded to 91 Emart stores nationwide. By January next year, the company plans to open a total of 543 new EV charging stations and continue sequential expansions.

The charging stations at Starfield and Emart locations will incorporate a smart fire detection solution to enhance safety. The company has implemented a solution based on thermal cameras and fire detection sensors to continuously monitor the charging stations.

In emergencies, there is a safety system to respond immediately through an integrated control center and on-site managers.

Additionally, Spharos EV plans to expand the number of electric vehicle charging stations to approximately 1,500 for major affiliates of the Shinsegae Group by February next year.

Shinsegae I&C aims to achieve more than double its year-end goal of 2,300 charging infrastructures to over 4,800 by spreading accessibility through retail stores, residential facilities, large office buildings, and a lifestyle-oriented expansion strategy.
