Samsung Electronics Co. will release its laptop lineup Galaxy Book4 series on Jan. 2, 2024, with a new intelligent processor for high performance and productivity, the South Korean tech giant said on Friday.

The lineup — the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Book4 Pro and Book4 Pro 360 — contains a new Intel Core Ultra 9 processor that combines a faster central processing unit (CPU), a higher-performing graphics processing unit (GPU) and a neural processing unit (NPU). It is Intel Corp.’s first PC chip with an NPU intended for artificial intelligence work.

The new processor will also boost the performance of 100 software vendors’ game and video clip-editing applications via Intel’s AI PC acceleration program, Samsung said.

For the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 and 4070 GPUs will enhance performance when creating high-quality images for game planning and graphics designs.

The new lineup is the first Galaxy Book series to include the Samsung Knox chip, which separately protects critical data on top of existing multi-layered security efforts by Intel and Microsoft Corp. All three models have also added a touchscreen that allows zooming and scrolling.

The previous Galaxy Book3 series was launched earlier this year, reinforcing Samsung’s 52% share of the Korean laptop market in the first quarter.

Thanks to its popularity, the Galaxy Book3 was nicknamed Roh Tae-book, a portmanteau of the name of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) business head Roh Tae-moon, also known as TM Roh.
