Hyundai Mobis' trailer reverse assistance system

South Korea's automotive parts maker Hyundai Mobis is boosting its presence in North America by unveiling technologies tailored for the market such as a trailer reverse assistance system.

The company on Thursday said it recently held an open house at Hyundai Mobis Technical Center of North America in Detroit, inviting figures from automotive client companies such as GM and Stellantis.

Through demonstrations, the event showcased Hyundai Mobis-developed technology tailored for the North American market.

The company's trailer reverse assistance system received the most attention from participants.

This technology automatically controls and operates the steering wheel based on the rear camera image when reversing a vehicle with a trailer, having the same function of a self-parking trailer.

Unlike South Korea, North America has high demand for pickup trucks that often tow trailers. After seeing that drivers of trailer-attached vehicles had difficulty in reverse parking, Hyundai Mobis applied its self-driving technology to develop the system.

The company installed the system on the Hyundai sport utility vehicle Genesis GV60 to allow participants to experience it firsthand.

In addition, Hyundai Mobis unveiled 21 new technologies at the open house like a system for monitoring a driver's bio signals and electronic parking brake for pickup trucks.

North America is the company's top market, with orders in the first half of this year worth $2.28 billion.
