South Korea's HD Hyundai Co. on Thursday said its CEO Chung Ki-sun visited the affiliate Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding in the central Vietnamese province of Khanh Hoa for inspection.

CEO Chung is part of an economic delegation accompanying President Yoon Suk Yeol this week on the latter's state visit to Vietnam.

"HD Hyundai achieved excellent results in Vietnam thanks to the hard work of its leadership and staff despite a difficult environment," he said. "I will proudly strive with Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding so that it can keep writing a success story representing Korean shipbuilding."

Marking the first overseas expansion of South Korean shipbuilding, the affiliate was opened in 1996 as a joint venture between Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Vietnam's Shipbuilding Industry Corp. Converted into a shipbuilder in the late 2000s from a repair and remodeling business, the subsidiary has a cumulative 200 orders.

On the same day, HD Hyundai took part in a Korea-Vietnam partnership expo at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, displaying its eco-friendly ship technology and solutions under the theme "Clean Future Starting from the Sea."

The company showcased its future green vessel technologies and a state-of-the-art hydrogen carrier model powered by solar and wind energy.
