Choi Jeong-woo, Chairman of POSCO Group and the World Steel Association, attended the association's first half-regular meeting held in Vienna, Austria, from April 17 to 18.

According to POSCO Holdings Inc. on Wednesday, the chairman discussed global steel issues with representatives from major 15 global steel companies and others.

During the meeting, Choi highlighted the importance of developing solutions for the future autonomous driving car body, responding to the global low-carbon initiative, and establishing international standards for measuring carbon emissions.

"The steel industry needs to reduce carbon emissions throughout the industry by adopting more efficient production methods, different processes from the past, and using new materials to achieve carbon neutrality," said Choi, stressing the need to promote the association's carbon emission measurement methods as global standards.

At the special general meeting of the board of members held on April 18, attended by representatives from more than 140 global steel companies and regional steel associations, Chairman Choi emphasized the industry's efforts toward carbon neutrality and improving its image.

He proposed holding the "first Innovation Technology Conference" in the United Arab Emirates in December this year to publicize the steel industry's determination toward carbon neutrality to the world.
