South Korea's state-run railway companies Korea Railroad (KORAIL) and Korea National Railway (KR) announced on Thursday that they had met with representatives from the Czech Ministry of Transport to discuss mutual cooperation in the railway sector, including high-speed rail projects in both countries.

The meeting was held at the request of Martin Kupka, the Minister of Transport for the Czech Republic. KORAIL Acting CEO, Ko Joon-young, exchanged opinions on the status of high-speed rail construction projects currently being undertaken by the Czech government.

KR also conducted a KTX test ride for the Czech delegation, sharing expertise in Korean high-speed rail technology and operation, including railway structures and signaling systems.

The Czech government aims to begin construction on a 650 km-long high-speed rail network by 2025. In 2014, the then-Minister of Transport for the Czech Republic visited Korea to explore Korean railway technology and operational experience when preparing for the project.
