South Korea's largest food company CJ CheilJedang Corp. announced on Monday that it has signed a business agreement with Jincheon County in North Chungcheong Province to establish a cooperation model for environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

CJ CheilJedang and the county government will work together to achieve carbon neutrality, a circular economy and corporate social responsibility, including promoting local community development.

This year, CJ will complete a facility at the CJ Blossom Campus in Jincheon that runs on biomass (wood fuel).

Through the "forest resource-recycling green new deal energy supply" project, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, CJ plans to produce environmentally friendly energy for household convenience foods such as Hetbahn steamed rice from 2025.

Furthermore, the company will collaborate with Jincheon County to explore ways to reduce carbon emissions using polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) materials.

CJ CheilJedang expects that their joint ESG-related business with the county government will create job opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
