South Korea's office software developer Hancom Inc. will apply ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) service that allows users to request and receive data in conversational form, to Hancom Docs, a cloud-based subscription service for editing documents.

Hancom on Thursday said it will release this year Hancom Docs AI, which uses ChatGPT. Hancom Docs supports a range of platforms like PCs, mobile and the web and provides Hancom Office, the country's answer to Microsoft 365, both in installation and web-based versions.

Hancom Office will also see select AI functions like Han OCR (Optical Character Recognition), a Hancom-developed function that analyzes text in an image and converts it into a document, and the AI chatbot Office Talk.

Hancom will first apply ChatGPT to its word processing program Hangul Office to provide AI functions like document creation, summary, editing and translation. The application scope will be expanded to Hancom Office programs such as Hanword for document editing, Hancell for spreadsheets and Hanshow for presentations, and the function of AI-based document visualization is also planned.

"We will make it easy for anyone to use AI in their work to raise productivity," said Kim Byung-ki, head of Hancom's strategic planning headquarters.
