Hyundai Motor's IONIQ 5 Hyundai Motor Co. on Sunday said its crossover electric vehicle (EV) sport-utility vehicle (SUV) IONIQ 5 was named the 2023 Canadian Utility Vehicle (SUV) of the Year and ranked first in a comparative EV evaluation by Europe's largest automotive trade magazine.
The IONIQ 5 beat out the Kia Corp. Telluride and Mitsubishi Outlander for the Canadian honor in a close battle to become the second straight Hyundai model to win the award following the Tucson last year. Launched in Canada last year, the IONIQ 5 is popular among consumers in the Great White North for its original design, ultra-fast charging and spacious interior.
In a comparative EV evaluation by Germany's Auto Bild, Europe's leading automotive trade magazine, the IONIQ 5 topped the Skoda Enyaq RS, Mercedes EQB and MG Marvel R in overall score, taking first in three of the seven categories: body, powertrain and eco-friendliness.
Auto Bild called the Hyundai hit "a car with a spacious and comfortable interior and an efficient rapid charging system."
Last year, the IONIQ 5 was named World Car of the Year by the World Car Awards and became the first EV to win SUV of the Year from Motor Trend, a leading American automotive magazine.
