Hyundai Engineering is promoting a micro module nuclear power plant project in Poland, on the heels of completing a similar project in Canada.

The company said on Thursday it had signed an MOU on the development of micro-modular reactor (MMR) business with US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp. and Poland's Legnica Special Economic Zone.

The LSEZ was set up in 1997 in southwest Poland, and so far some 77 global companies, including Volkswagen and BASF, have a presence there.

Hyundai Engineering decided to explore the possibility of introducing MMRs to supply electricity, heat and steam to the economic zone, and is cooperating to realize the project through future discussions.

"Based on our experience in implementing the Chalk River MMR in Canada, we will aggressively promote the MMR project in Poland to uphold our status as a global leader in this area," said a Hyundai Engineering official.
