B-Robotics' service robot

Woowa Brothers, the parent company of South Korea's food delivery app Baedal Minjok, on Wednesday spun off its professional service robot unit into an independent affiliate to accelerate domestic robotics development and enter overseas markets through faster decision-making.

B-Robotics was officially launched that day as a wholly owned subsidiary of Woowa Brothers led by Kim Min-soo, who led the service robot unit at the parent company.

In 2018, Woowa Brothers started pilot service for its robot server and launched a rental product a year later in achieving commercial application.

In May last year, the company began Korea's first rental service of a server robot for 300,000 won ($245) per month to lead the popularization of robots in the country.

As an independent affiliate, B-Robotics in the first half of the year will launch a product with improved table serving and clearing functions by connecting a restaurant call bell and a robot server.

Its plan is to diversify the base of the professional service robot market by expanding application to other workplaces such as screen golf courses and distribution centers under a goal of running over 2,500 robots by year's end.
