South Korea's mobile telecom operator LG Uplus said on Thursday that it would introduce a specialized metaverse platform for which all universities in Korea can use early next year, in partnership with a cloud-managed service provider (MSP) Megazone and game developer Gala Lab.

LG Uplus will take the role of planning spaces and services that make use of the characteristics of each university and developing additional corporate partnership models. Meanwhile, Gala Lab will take the initiative in metaverse and platform development, and Megazone will be responsible for cloud infrastructure configuration and maintenance.

Earlier in April this year, LG Uplus unveiled "Snowverse," a metaverse service exclusively for Sookmyung Women's University. Last month, it signed agreements with Cheongju University and Ewha Womans University to build metaverse platforms.

"We will contribute to enabling domestic universities to leap forward as future digital leaders through the university-specific metaverse platforms," said Choi Taek-jin, head of LG Uplus' corporate division.
